This Week In NYC

This week, CultureCon transforms the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn. The event, described as a cultural homecoming for Black creatives, runs from September 28 through October 1.

Oktoberfest has also arrived. Bars and beer halls across the city are observing the occasion with beer steins and appropriate appetites.

For those whose tastes run more toward the macabre, the Halloween season begins with the opening of BloodManor, a 10,000-square-foot haunted house in Manhattan.

The subway platform soundtrack is heading above ground.

Without A Price Tag

Several notable events this week cost nothing to attend.

  • Taste of Sunnyside returns on Sunday, October 4. The Queens neighborhood’s edible offerings are featured at this casual tasting affair.
  • Rooftop tours at the Manhattan Municipal Building are now available. The mayor’s office has opened the space for a new view of the city from above.
  • MTA Music performances are moving outdoors. The MTA is bringing 50 free performances across Midtown through October 22.
  • “Unbound” at Brooklyn Public Library is a new, free exhibition by a Brooklyn artist and acclaimed children’s book author, on view through December 27.

Jaywalker is open Thursday through Sunday in Bushwick.
