This Week In NYC

August in New York continues. The city provides a few compelling reasons to be outside before the month ends.

The Outdoors

On Saturday, August 15, the Blues BBQ Festival returns. The event combines blues music with barbecue on the waterfront.

For those who prefer the city with less noise, NYC Summer Streets continues this week. It closes several miles of streets to cars for a few hours, opening them to the public for walking and cycling.

New York hits the mute button on traffic for a few hours.

Stages and Screens

The International Puppet Fringe Festival is back after a three-year hiatus. It runs from August 12 to 16. Elsewhere, the summer edition of NYC Restaurant Week is also underway across the five boroughs.

Free outdoor film screenings remain a reliable option for the evenings.

  • Movies with a View shows films at Brooklyn Bridge Park, with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.
  • Paramount+ Movie Nights take over the lawn at Bryant Park in Midtown.
  • Seaport Cinema screens movies on the Heineken Riverdeck at Pier 17.
