The Story
Matthew Calbraith Perry served as Commandant of the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1841–43, and as early as 1833 helped found its Naval Lyceum to "promote the diffusion of useful knowledge." This original Navy Strength gin — 57% ABV — sits at the historical proof at which gunpowder could still fire if soaked by spilled spirit; the "Tot," a British measure of alcohol, nods to the tradition. The grit is 19th-century Brooklyn; the cocktail culture it serves is ours.
